OK, that’s a bit dramatic…we DID use a deck of cards and there certainly were some tough aspects of it, but nobody died. O-69 may have wanted to kill me, but that’s nothing new.
11 pax at Aspen including a great showing of Waxhaw guys. Thanks Dunkin and Premature for extending our Three Amigos posting streak to 4 in a row this week.
Not sure if this site is Waxhaw or Union County or some ugly step-child hybrid, but DiCCS were given freely to all.
Mosey to the teacher parking lot and slalom around the cones. Somebody knocked one over so impromptu 5 burpee penalty for everyone #veteranQmoves
Circle up for SSHs, Imperial Walkers, Moroccan Night Clubs, Mountain Climbers, Calf Stretches, Plank Jacks, and Glidah Stretches
Line up on the curb, each to his own parking space for some Gassers. Last time I did Gassers I got complaints that the pax were already gassed so this time I decided to start with them to ensure everyone was worn out for the rest of the workout. Here’s how they go:
- Sprint (not mosey) to the middle line and back
- 10 reps
- Sprint (not mosey) to the far curb and back
- 5 reps
- Repeato with the next exercise
- Set 1:
- Dry Docks
- Set 2:
- Big Bois
- Lunges (2=1)
- Set 3:
- Mike Tysons
- American Hammers (2=1)
- Bobby Hurleys
I’d say the pax were sufficiently gassed. Back to the slalom mosey. I think everyone was extra careful to avoid the cones this time so no burpees. Back to COT for a quick pitstop to drop off my hoodie (definitely warmed up now) and grab the deck of cards.
I’ll admit, I stole this directly from a Premature Q at The Floater a while back, but I liked the idea so I’m gonna take credit. It was slightly modified.
Mosey to the track which is roughly 1/8 of a mile in length. Each pax takes turns calling out an exercise. I draw two cards from the deck, add their values and that’s the number of reps we do. Face cards are worth 10 and Aces are worth 15. So, a pax calls an exercise, I draw two cards, we do the reps, then run half a lap around the track and repeato until all pax have called an exercise. NOTE: no repeats on the exercises or there’s a penalty. What’s the penalty? We’ll never know since the pax were sure to call unique exercises each time.
I swear I didn’t stack the deck. In fact, all I did was glance through the cards to check if there were jokers in it (there were not). However, we managed to get at least a face card or Ace on pretty much every exercise. Suckers…We did a mix of Merkins, Squats, LBCs, Flutters, Burpees (Double E, you sicko), Ball Busters (Swimmers, you sicko), Mike Tysons, and a few other standard ones. No repeatos. All done.
Round 2 – a few additional notes:
- Run the opposite way this time
- If you call the exercise you have to count it (in cadence, on my up, whatever…)
- Still no repeatos from the first round
Double E started us off with Pull-Ups since we were right next to the playground. This was met with groans. I drew two cards: a Queen and an Ace (I swear I didn’t stack the deck). That’s 25 reps! More groans.
So since that took forever we didn’t make as many loops in round 2 before we ran out of time. I was hoping to stretch the pax to think of different exercises than we normally do. That or get the dreaded unknown penalty. No worries, 60 seconds left gave us enough time to get back to COT and finish.
Again, great showing by Waxhaw pax today. It may not be the closest site but it’s fun to try something new. One day I’ll explore it during the daytime so I can see where things are and then I’ll take us all on an adventure.
