Watchtower has a special place in my heart because it’s the best AO that currently meets at Weddington Middle School. It’s got razor sharp asphalt that makes you feel like you’re sticking your hands on broken glass and it’s got the hill from hell. What’s not to love?
Mosey to the four square lot (I call it that because it has several large squares painted in it that I can only assume are for kids to play the game Four Square). Side Straddle Hops, LBCs, more SSHs, Plank Jacks, more SSHs, stretches (Damascus moans included), more SSHs. Mosey back to the COT lot for…
Circuit 1: To the top of the hill, 15 Bonnie Blairs. To the bottom of the hill, 15 Merkins. Around the car loop to the front of the school, 15 Donkey Kicks. To the sidewalk next to the COT lot, 15 Big Bois. Repeato for a total of 3 rounds.
Next I gave the pax a choice of partner work or a different circuit. Rockwell picked partner work for us so we all teamed up.
Partner 1 is the timer. Run 15ish seconds up the hill then turn around and run back to your partner. Partner 2 does exercises then swap when Partner 1 gets back. Exercises included:
- 4x4s (4 Merkins followed by 4 Mountain Climbers 2=1)
- Pistol LBCs
- Mike Tysons
- Box Cutters
- Bobby Hurleys
Afterwards I asked Elmer’s for a teeyun count but he was being a smartass and counted 11, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…conveniently skipping the one number I wanted him to say. As punishment I decided to make everyone do the other circuit. (Don’t tell Elmer’s I was going to have us do it anyways). Mosey to the benches on the Elementary school side of the car loop.
Circuit 2: 15 Step-ups on the benches. To the rock pile at the playground fence, 15 Curls. To the light pole at the car loop circle, 15 Bomb Jacks. To the rock pile at the modular units, 15 Shoulder Presses. Repeato for a total of 2 rounds.
Less than 3 minutes remaining, a quick mosey the long way around the loop then back to COT to finish out with American Hammers.
Good to see some mashers out this morning with Mayhem, Lambeau, and Sledge-O-Matic. The weather’s a little chilly but I have no doubt they got warmed up in a hurry.
Rockwell, Elmer’s, and Sugar Daddy made the long trek from Walnut Creek, though Sugar Daddy admitted he was only here because he arrived too late for WXW Express. I told him I’d help him get some mileage in and we were able to get over 3. Great to see all those guys so far from home.
We had a good contingent of Briar Cresters this morning between Chicken, Mute, Schneider, and Ricky Bobby. Good to see Ricky Bobby putting in the work even though he’s nursing an injury. I put Bomb Jacks in the weinke just for Chicken and I now know that Schneider has “taken a liking to” burpees, I’ll be sure to add plenty of those next time I Q the Watchtower. Mute is the exact opposite of Schneider and fits his name. He is (quietly) a hard worker and getting better.
Chipotle is quiet too but he was killing it up the hill during our partner work. It was just a bit odd seeing him without his usual partner Big Tuna.
Blue Screen was supposed to Q today instead of me but had a “freak accident” last week. Something to do with balls and feet. Considering who I was talking too I didn’t want to ask too many questions. Despite his accident he left the workout this morning needing more and went to the gym.
Prayers for Mayhem’s brother’s cousin’s mom’s step-dad Jerry (I may have missed the actual relation) who is nearing the end and is struggling with many things. Mayhem asked us to make a “J” for Jerry in our family photo so he could show it to Jerry and let him know he’s in our prayers.
