It’s been a bit since the Shared Leadership Team (SLT) met and it’s been an even longer bit since there was a backblast chronicling the events of said meeting. So, a couple things in case you’re new to F3 or just need a refresher:

  • F3 (and by extension F3 Waxhaw) is both Peer Led and Freed to Lead. We have a group of individuals with specific focus areas (Fitness, Fellowship, and Faith) that volunteered (or were maybe slightly voluntold) to be “in charge”
  • The SLT isn’t a governing body. We’re not here to tell you (or anyone) what to do. We’re just here to make sure we continue functioning as a region and following our mission
  • The mission of F3 is to plant, grow, and serve small workout groups for men for the invigoration of male community leadership. F3 is more than a workout. If you didn’t know that then maybe start here (http://f3waxhaw.com/about/) and then follow up with someone on the SLT
  • Our current SLT:
    • Nantan (Spokesperson/Leader) – Chastain
    • 1st F Qs – Dasher & Kid Rock
    • 2nd F Q – Black Hat
    • 3rd F Q – Chatterbox
    • Weasel Shaker – Vacant
    • Commz Q – Vacant
  • As you read the remainder of our meeting summary remember what I said above about F3 being Peer Led and Freed to Lead. Everything that happens in our region happens because someone stepped out to make it happen. Workouts need Qs. Lunches need someone to plan them. Events need many hands to run them. Sites/AOs need Site Qs. Coffeeteria needs someone to bring coffee, cups, sugar, and creamer. Trails need upkeep. Bible studies, Christ’s Closet, Church on the Street, website upkeep, Slack administration…the list is large but all the items have one thing in common. They need someone to lead them. Maybe that someone is you.

1st F Opportunities & Events (Fitness)

The 1st F (Fitness) is the magnet. It’s what brought most of us to F3. The goal is to improve your 3S2T: Speed, Strength, Stamina, Toughness (Physical) and Toughness (Mental). We’ve got 29 workout options spread throughout the week supported by 50 Site Qs. And 4 of those pull double duty at more than one site. That’s just the regularly scheduled events, too! Sprinkled throughout the year are challenges, events, and the CSAUPs (Completely Stupid And Utterly Pointless). Here’s a few things we have planned. Want to take the next step? Ask where you can help.

Q School & Site Q Leadership

Never led a workout before or maybe only a couple? Just looking for a refresher or some ideas? Q School is coming soon. We’ll cover the fundamentals of a good workout like cadence counting and common exercises as well as strategies like how to handle large or small groups or what to do when things don’t quite go as planned.

Site Q School is a similar offering but for those pax that are in charge of one of our workout locations. It covers your role and responsibilities. That goes beyond just making sure there’s a Q lined up. You set the tone/culture of your site. You market the site the day before to get the hype going. You provide coaching for the Q and make sure no man is left behind. Are you doing these things now? Site Q School is for current and aspiring Site Qs. Coming soon.

Leadership is a big deal around here so we’re going to make sure pax are provided with both opportunities to lead as well resources to improve their leadership capabilities. Please take advantage of these schools.

Speaking of Site Qs, we’ve had a number of pax who’ve been handling those duties for a long time. A long, long time. Years in some cases. One of our discussion points is how to invigorate those roles and there are two immediate options:

  1. Get some new blood! If you have never been a Site Q or it’s been a while it might be time for you to throw your hat into the ring and take over a site from an existing Site Q. Maybe it’s a site you attend regularly. Chat with the SLT or even directly to a Site Q and see how you can help. (Site Qs are listed below the calendar at http://f3waxhaw.com/schedule/)
  2. If you’re already a Site Q it could be a time for a change of scenery! A different location? A different day of the week? A different type of workout? Talk with your fellow Site Qs or drop it in the Site Q channel. Let’s mix it up

Summer/Fall Events

This summer there’s no shortage of challenges and events to keep you engaged. Keep posting, for sure, but keep watching Slack (and our email newsletter) for details

  • June – WXW Gladiators Challenge
  • June – Ruck Event – it doesn’t have a name yet but it’ll be long and hard (TWSS)
  • July – BROlympics
  • August – Passport Challenge
  • October – WXW Spartan
  • November/December – Adventure Quest

2nd F Opportunities & Events (Fellowship)

If the 1st F is the magnet, then the 2nd F (Fellowship) is the glue. It’s the part that keeps you coming back for more. You could work out on your own AND at a different (later) time of day. But you might not stick with it. You won’t get the same results. But even more important is the bonds of friendship, accountability, and trust that are created. Each of our 29 workout options provide an opportunity to strike up a conversation with your fellow pax, before, during, and after. And then there’s coffeeteria that comes immediately following. Can’t hang out there? We’ve got monthly lunches, too! Still nothing that fits your schedule or floats your boat? Put something in Slack and chances are there are at least a handful of guys that are up for it. There are even some specialized channels like #whats_cookin and #single-barrel-bourbon for you to explore.

Summer/Fall Events

Just like we’ve got you covered for 1st F events, we’ve got a few in the works for Fellowship too!

  • June – Monthly Lunch @ WXW Park
  • July – F3 Karaoke Night and charity fundraiser
  • July – F3 Family Movie Night
  • August – Cane Creek Park Family Day

Coffeeteria

Coming soon! Coffee kits for on-site coffeeteria. Maybe you’ve got a few extra minutes after COT to hang around but not quite enough time to make it to Dunkin or Teeter. Or maybe you’re at one of those far off sites that isn’t close to a coffee place. Either way, the answer is Coffee Kits! Your 2nd F team is working to build these packages with everything you need to bring coffee to you! If you’re interested in being a Coffee Q, let us know!

3rd F Opportunities & Events (Faith)

The 3rd F (Faith) doesn’t refer to any particular religion or worldview. It’s the transition point where a man stops thinking primarily of himself and where his concern becomes primarily external and in service of others. And when the men he serves and impacts cross that same transition point and become servants themselves, the effect is dynamic. This is where our impact explodes and thus the 3rd F is the dynamite. We have several organizations we support on a regular basis including Christ’s Closet and Church on the Street. Additionally, we provide opportunities to help others via blood drives, individual service projects, and more

  • May 31 – Blood Drive
  • June 7 – Christ’s Closet giveaway – Burgaw, NC
  • June 27 – Christ’s Closet loading party
  • June 28 – Christ’s Closet giveaway – Bennettsville, SC

We’re also looking to explore new service partnerships and other one-off opportunities to help others. If you have a ministry or other organization that might be a good fit then let’s talk!

6th Anniversary Event

Monday, September 1st (Labor Day) we’ll be celebrating F3 Waxhaw’s 6th year as an official region. This is always a great opportunity to show off what sets us apart as a region so we’ve gotta start the planning right now. Here’s a few things we’re targeting:

  • “I went to the F3 Waxhaw 6 Year Anniversary and all I got was this stupid t-shirt”
    • Everyone needs another t-shirt in their lives. Pre-orders will go out soon
  • Guest speaker
    • Lots of positive feedback from last year’s motivational speaker so we’ll be looking to bring in another speaker this year
  • 1st F
    • Multiple workout options
      • Bootcamp
      • Gear
      • Running
      • Biking
    • Possible guest Qs from neighboring regions
  • 2nd F
    • Blackstone grill is making a comeback!
    • Coffeeteria on-site
  • 3rd F
    • Children’s Hospital outreach (Dasher’s M initiative) – details coming soon
    • Christ’s Closet clothing donations
  • Canned food donations
  • Bike donations
  • Outreach
    • In previous years we’ve had good participation from neighboring regions
    • We want to continue to strengthen these relationships
    • Here are two opportunities:
      • Waxhaw pax can/should support other regions’ anniversaries!
        • F3 Mint Hill celebrates their 10th year on Friday June 13th
      • Passport Challenge – As mentioned above, August we will hold a Passport Challenge with points awarded for unique AOs visited (and bonus points for Qing). That includes AOs in other regions! So travel a little further, meet some new pax, get some bonus points, and spread the news about Waxhaw’s 6 Year Anniversary!
    • To assist with our outreach we’ll be creating a digital flyer with all the details and an easy to access URL to share

Closing

As you can see we have no shortage of challenges, events, and opportunities to serve. These don’t happen on their own and they need a healthy dose of pax stepping up to participate, plan, and lead. Do you see a hole in the schedule? Are we lacking in an area? Do you have a great idea for the next challenge/workout/get-together/ministry/etc? You don’t need permission. Don’t wait until you’re called upon. Take the next step. Become a leader. #LFG
