Cliff notes: Things will start slowing down for the trail runners until our next local ultra event (June 21st!), so before we begin our 2-week rest, we tasked Anne Spring connoisseur Hazmat with crafting us a half-marathon course worthy of a big race. And of course, he delivered: almost 900 ft of elevation gain, rocks, roots, mud, tall grass, tunnels… it had it all.

And with all the diverse terrain and the weather this morning, the corresponding fauna. Kid and Drive-By may have wrestled an alligator. Chef—our turtle whisperer—rescued his second specimen from being trampled by some idiot. We searched for snakes in the usual places. And the donkeys… Don’t get me started.

We almost had to Indiana Jones a bridge here and there, since the park is working hard on improving and extending its already impressive network of trails. Nothing we couldn’t handle.

All in all, another fantastic morning in the woods, which ended with spectacular coffee and breakfast.
