So before we set out for the start of the workout, I assembled the team. I made sure they were all equipped with rucks, head lamps, gloves, smart watches that could provide calorie counts (important for later). I asked that each of the be accountable to their teammate. If one started falling behind, push them for more. Encourage them to step up. And last, I provided our mission for the morning. That mission was as a team burn at a minimum of 500 calories on average with a stretch goal of 550. Where did those numbers come from? I looked back at my last five RuckU workouts and found calorie burns of 562, 530, 495, and 479 (thanks Posse). And while that averages to 510, I had no clue where the rest of the groups calorie burn was so I settled on a standard goal of 500 and stretch goal of 550.
What we did:
Bottom of Keith Jong Hill (never saw Floater there but according to marketing they were?). Riffle carry to a light post, 20 curls, then drop the ruck and run to the stop sign for progressive burpees (1, then 2, then 3….). Repeat with the run shrinking as you riffle carried closer each round up one light pole. That took 32 minutes to complete.
Some notes from that…..
Uhaul pushed extremely hard today. On the first run he was right on my heels. Great push brother.
Radar was steady eddy today. He didn’t break any records, but he didn’t quit either. This was a hard workout and there were no complaints, he just got after it.
Dunkin was under the weather. His illness prevented him from doing most of the opening workout. Which allowed me to drive home a Q Source point of black tahoeing teammates that are not meeting the standard and that are diverting the team from the ultimate mission. The black tahoe conversation went something like this “Dunkin, I love you, but your illness is holding you back from this workout and mission. I’m removing you from the group when it comes to the mission of a 500 calorie burn, but I need you to hang with us for the balance of the Q source point”
So did we complete the mission? Calorie burns below:
532
562
712
Average:602
Lesson learned: don’t underestimate the group. Provide a larger stretch goal next time.
Challenge (since Hatchet has been so fond of them lately): Did RuckU outwork The Floater today? Can the floater beach an average calorie burn of 602 or a max of 712? (No money is on the table, Hatchet and Zin can have their stupid $1,000 bet).
