AO: Bushwood
Q: Posse ,
PAX: Noonan, Das Boot, Tanyatine, Posse, Strawberry
FNGs: None
COUNT: 5
That title could easily describe 99% of my Qs.

Today was the Cooper / Balke / VO2max test. You could pay upwards of $125 for a really accurate assessment, but this is F3; why invest in what scientists consider the gold standard of longevity indicator of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes, & cognitive decline? Let’s just run as fast as we can for 15 minutes straight & see how far we can go?

Been nursing a bad knee (& 50 lbs of excessive weight), but I was determined to do this as my Q at bushwood for months now. It’s the flattest AO in all the region, so elevation can be removed from distance excuses.

To give everyone the best shot at their best times, we did about 15 minutes of warm up exercises. Strawberry & Noonan were none too pleased by this, even though Das had the least clothing on. Tanyatine didn’t care as he posted from 5:25 – 5:31 (but still showed like the permanent Site Q he is).

Turns out from the MES entrance to the end of Groves Edge Lane is exactly 1 mile. Everyone easily made it there within 15 minutes. The real race is the return trip – how much ground can you cover?
Cones were laid out at every quarter mile. Next time, I’ll have them lit up so it’d be easier to see. Forgot how dark that street can be when you’re looking for something specific.

Even though I’m normally as fast as Das / Tanyatine, today I was the 6. Tried to cut through the back of the school entrance, but it was locked. By the time I got to the other side of the school’s rock pile, we had just enough time to run back to CoT, even though I had promised rock work in the final third to encourage Pax to give the test their all.

How did we do?
1. Convert miles to meters
2. Go to www.brianmac.co.uk/balke.htm & enter the distance (in meters) to get your VO2max. Notice there is no weight component, as it is only a measure of pure aerobic capacity (Clydesdale friendly).
3. Take the value from #2, go to www.brianmac.co.uk/vo2max.htm & scroll halfway down the page until you see the calculator in the “VO2max Assessment” heading. Choose your age range, your gender, & enter the VO2max from #2. Click on Calculate. Celebrate for Superior rating; get better for any other rating.
