SLT Team:
Nantan – Chastain
1st F – Dunkin
2nd F – Posse
3rd F – Mad Dog
Weasel Shaker – Fuse Box
The SLT decided to shake things up this morning and ruck and meet at the same time. 4.3 miles in with lots of discussion, I’d say it was a success.
If you haven’t seen an SLT update in awhile, well that would be on me (Fuse Box). I just recently learned that secretary of SLT meetings is also a job function of the Weasel Shaker so I plan to update the region on our monthly(ish) meetings.
Chastain led the discussion off with what is the SLT’s purpose. The leading point appeared to be that we are here to help create and facilitate Sua Sponte Leaders within the Waxhaw Region. Sua Sponte is Latin and translates “to his own accord”. In Q Source, a Sua Sponte Leader is described as a man who is freed to lead, a man who takes individual initiative, and a man who initiates movement towards advantage. In short, he sees a problem and he fixes it. If you want to read more on Sua Sponte Leadership, check out the Q Source chapter here: f3nation.com/sua-sponte-leader-q4-1/
Whether it was due to the rucking style or the way Chastain opened our meeting, we abandoned the normal structure of our meeting (Nantan talks, then 1st F talks, then 2nd F…) and went after problems and improvements we saw in the region today. Lots of off the cuff discussions that we later drilled down to actual action items. Discussion topics included:
What to do after q source. It ends in two weeks. Do we turn it into a coffeteria for the summer or do we keep it a leadership driven discussion.
Settled on keeping it a leadership discussion. Mad Dog to dig into a shorter (5-6 week) leadership book that it would be good to pivot to for the summer.
Third f monthly service AO?
Waxhaw has 3 constant service opportunities (Christ Closet, Rice & Beans, Church on the Street), but it was noted that two of those three options are not local to Waxhaw.
Other regions have a monthly service AO with site Q’s and Q’s that instead of working out, they do different service projects. We tip toed into that with the start of our Monthly AO site clean ups but that fell off.
Mad Dog plans to dig deeper into starting a monthly service AO similar to other regions. If interested in being a part of this new endeavor, see Mad Dog.
How do we get more participation in 2nd F? A 2nd f challenge?
Coffeteria seems to be growing. Good feedback from moving the monthly convergence up 15 minutes to allow a longer coffeteria.
What about 2nd F Lunches and Fire Water. Seems both started strong with participation but recent attendance has been lower.
Dough Boy plans to expand July Fire Water to do a family style pool party. The hope is that by including families, more pax will be able/willing to attend.
How to we increase sua sponte leadership?
Do all pax know what Sua Sponte Leadership is? Do pax know they are freed to lead? If you think we are lacking in an area (all three F’s) you are free to create something. No permission needed. Go do it.
A recent great example of this is Blue Screen and Radar’s new push to introduce F3 to incarcerated individuals.
Falcon’s basketball AO
Soggy’s April posting challenge that has morphed into a monthly challenge.
How to we fold in unique ao’s into other f3 events. .
Off the Chain, Fruit Stand/Open Door, and the Running AO’s seemed to have had an increase in attendance and FNG’s. However, many (not all) often only do those particular sites. How do we bring them into the fold of F3. Not just 1st F events but 2nd and 3rd F as well.
It was mentioned that perhaps we open up the post Off The Chain workout beers as a summer 2nd F event. That would allow the pax and bax to mingle that don’t necessarily cross pollenate and open up another 2nd F opportunity.
Concerns over space and parking? Posse to reach out to Off the Chain Site Q’s to open discussions.
Site q discussion.
We have have 27ish sites which translates to roughly 54 site Q’s. With somewhere between 75-100 active pax (active being defined as someone who works out weekly) it makes it hard to roll off and insert new blood into the site Q’s.
Several Site Q’s have mentioned being ready to roll off but can’t find someone to take their place.
Some Site Q’s are going through the motions at this point and doing the bare minimum (likely burnt out).
Discussion around developing an Ao of the month to add some competition to sites and site Q’s. Promote and call out the sites that are great. Great being defined by the Site Q Document: docs.google.com/document/d/1p5l00xX1W9GQX55OOw8N9fgxF8wvY84NNePX9jl6K-Q/edit
Dunkin to explore further on developing this AO of the Month Challenge.
Battle Buddy’s has fizzled. The original concept was around developing a program and group of pax to help integrate FNG’s better into F3 to where they were not just a 1 and done. Battle Buddy’s started under the 1st F Q, but upon discussions today, it feels better suited under the Weasel Shaker role. Currently the Weasel Shaker has an FNG and Kotter’s Q so it feels natural to add Battle Buddy’s to that responsibility list.
Fuse Box to reach out to current Battle Buddy team to gauge interest in staying on and then relaunch Battle Buddy’s (maybe under a new name since Zin has now used the term in a different meaning) with some new direction.
COT is lacking. It has turned into name-o-rama, announcements, and prayer. We have lost the circle of trust aspect of COT and we need to bring it back.
Discussions around COT doesn’t have to end in a prayer. It can be a life lesson, an impactful story, a testimonial around F3’s impact on you, ect.
We discussed how Bottle Caps 6th man push years ago was effective.
It was determined that we would start a 6th man count off to share your why. The 6th man to count off would answer the following three questions during COT:
How long have you been coming to F3?
How did you get your F3 name?
Why do you come to F3?
Launchvergenceversery (Still unsure of that name) planning at next slt. Labor Day will mark our 4th year as a region (I think).
We want to get back to a 200 plus pax event similar to our first launchvergence. This requires an all hands effort to reach out to other regions. Posse mentioned that face to face seems to work best so traveling to neighboring regions to make announcements at the COT is critical. Area 51, SOB, The Fort are all close enough to reach out to. Other regions that we have had contact with that we could draw from: Columbia, Race City, Gastonia.
