PAX: Chastain, Kid Rock, Dasher – Jeff Green, Paper Jam, Elmer’s, Sugar Daddy- Joe Gummersbach, Goodfella
FNGs: None
COUNT: 7
What had happened was:

The dons of short_circuit have a good thing going on. The headbands and the cafe (with coffee, cookies, and ice cold watermelon) made the looong trip worth it.

Important stuff up front:
Dasher – Jeff Green couldn’t sleep so got up at 3am and lifted for 30 minutes and then rucked 2.5 miles before getting in another 5+ at Short Circuit! Beast mode! #fearthedeer

Kid Rock still putting up 7+ miles in typical Kid fashion even with an injured back

Goodfella was in the front all morning and didn’t let a few hills slow him down. I only passed him during the gear phase because of bad instructions from the Q

Paper Jam shadowed us the whole time and got some good mileage in. He stuck to his guns and kept his hands off the ground though we did catch him at the end doing some Incline Merkins on the picnic tables

Sugar Daddy- Joe Gummersbach rolled his ankle on the mean streets of The Floater yesterday but couldn’t pass up the cafe this morning. He showed up with a coupon and resistance bands and put in some hard work even though he couldn’t join us through Walnut Creek

Elmer’s is a good dude and kept Sugar company with a sandbag and his charm. He and Sugar kept the cafe safe until the rest of us got back to COT

The Thang:
A few months ago I attended Border Patrol and Kid Rock took us to an awful hill. There are a lot of hills in Walnut Creek but they all pale in comparison to the Kinder Climb segment. I knew as soon as I signed up for Short Circuit that we’d be returning, so apart from a brief warmup to stretch out the calves and hammies, we made a beeline 0.8 miles from COT straight to Kinder Lane. I gave quick instructions to run the segment hard and then we’d gather at the top. The hill is nasty. Look it up. Or better yet, show up to Short Circuit and/or Border Patrol and FAFO.

While we were in the area we did 7s with Mike Tysons and Big Bois on the Kinder hill. Everyone was glad to be done and vacate the area as we moseyed in the general direction of COT. However, we took the next road on the right and down mostly to the bottom of Agora Court where YHC had strategically placed a few coupons and kettlebells.

This time I stole a page from Transporters book and did weighted exercises at the bottom and burpees at the top.
30 curls, 5 burpees
20 presses, 5 burpees
10 triceps, 5 burpees
(it was at this point that my poor instructions launched me ahead of Goodfella. We were supposed to repeat the 10 triceps but my wording wasn’t great [blame the fatigue] and he went straight on to presses before I corrected him and he had to start over)
10 triceps, 5 burpees
20 presses, 5 burpees
30 curls, 5 burpees

Alright! Hide the coupons then start heading back in the direction of COT. Sadly, when I looked at my watch we were only halfway through the workout when I thought FOR SURE it’d be closer to 50 minutes in. :face_vomiting:

Mosey on to Hancock Rd, hang a right and head down to the bottom for more 7s. This time with Diamond Merkins at the bottom and Heels to Heaven at the top.

NOW we’re getting close to the end so we head back to COT and wrap it up with some Aggressive Corners in the parking lot. Merkins, Squats, and Big Bois until we’re out of time.

We set a Short Circuit mileage record with 5.2 miles and everyone earned a nap. If you haven’t been out yet, it’s a gem of a site with lots of options. Make a plan to get out there, or better yet, do what I did and just sign up to Q. We all get better!
