I wanted to do something different at Mount X – which is tough considering I’ve Q’ed there somewhere around 30 times and was a site Q for 3ish years. Last night in bed I decided I wanted to do some sort of competition – perhaps with teams of 3….and a sleepless hour later I had the plan – a Grinder competition.

After a brief warm up with stretching, running, and Merkins – it was time to explain the competition to the pax enough so that even Damascus could understand it. Teams of 3 splitting Coupon reps: 300 curls, 300, tri’s, 300 upright rows and body weight reps: 300 merkins, 300 squats, 300 heels to heaven – with a runner in between the two exercise areas.

The catch – there was an optional crawl bear up mount x and bear crawl back down to give the team 1 attack or defensive shield. The attack could take 100 reps from any team, but the shield could block an attack. Once used, it was gone…and with 3 members on the team, you only could get 3 attack/shields.

We started off and all three runners thought it was best to gain their shield/attack and crawl beared/bear crawled up and down mount x. A few rounds in and the reps were pilling on but everyone was afraid to attack first. With three teams and each team only having 1 attack or shield, an attack meant a likely shield followed by the third team attacking back. I realized if I didn’t draw first blood, there would be no game to this game. So that’s what I did. I attempted to steal 100 curls from Monkey D. He blocked it with his shield and I waited…..was Twinkle going to pounce on the advantage his team had and attack me back??? Nope. He grinned and spouted something about upholding the ten commandments…but we all knew an attack would be coming….but when.

A few more rounds in and teammates decided shields were needed so more craw bears and bear crawls ensued. The shields kept the pax at bay for most of the next few rounds. I joked with Hi Hat about taking some of his heels to heaven only to find out from Xerox that we had been double attacked at the blocks. An attack, we shielded, then two more attacks. They stole 200 upright rows!!! It was a blood bath! Team commandments laid in wait only to double attack at the end (Strategery).

With about 5 minutes left and two of the three teams done, I decided we needed something new. We recovered back to COT for some shoulder smoke work.

30 coupon OH presses, crawl bear 15 feet, 10 dry docks, 10 air presses…..repeat until time was up. Most pax got three rounds in. Cat Fish was sending explicative’s my way. The shoulders were good a roasted.

MOLESKIN:
– Thanks to the pax for putting up with something new. As with all things new, its hard to take what’s in my head and explain in quickly and succinctly while we are all breathing hard. Also, as with trying new things, there are area’s of improvement to make it better/harder/ect. Perhaps we will try this again another day.
– I gave the pax the option of pushing someone they didn’t like into the sprinklers while we were doing toy soldiers….no one obliged …though Draper was giving me a hella side eye.
– Cat Fish explained 35 minutes into the workout how fast it was going (which I agreed), yet those last 5 minutes of shoulder work seemed to go by soooooo slow.
– I forgot how much the mount x crawl bear/bear crawl sucked. The added wetness added an additional mental toughness.
– Xerox has a new found cheeriness and smile. Its probably due to gold prices. I think that smile left him when I called the shoulder work.
– Pax started realizing if they were too loud passing counts on that other pax would take notice and start attacking. So as the rounds went on, it morphed into this weird whispering check in which I found hilarious. I even make some joke to Xerox about whispering sweet nothings into his ear.
– Some pax (me) felt exposed without a shield and started attempting to butter up other pax. Apparently Twinkle was not amused when I complemented him on how his ass looked in his shorts. Monkey D seeing my strategery decided to jump in and also complement his shorts, yet fell short of going the full ass complement.
– Something about the threat of a pax stealing 100 reps and not wanting to turn in a low number when your grinder partners comes in really pushes you to knock out reps quickly.
– Team Catfish, Maple Syrup, and Monkey D won todays competition but I gave them the medal under protest since my team had two double respects and they only had 1 barely single respect (literally turned 50 this year). But of course I never shy away from an opportunity to complain.
– I won’t break the COT trust – but shout out to the wedding anniversary mile stones and all the other praises and prayers that were shared.
– Somehow we got to talking about gaging on tooth brushes as the picture was being snapped. You had to be there.

Announcements:
– Convergence to Rae View tomorrow at 5:15 (I’m telling myself this as much as I am the pax since I showed up at 5:30 at the last convergence I went to).
